| Bio: | Character Name: Tao Ren Character Series: Shaman King Age: 15 Background: Ren is a 15 year old shaman from China. He was born on January 1st, 1986 and was forced by his father to learn and train at a very young age. He was raised with belief that humans cannot be trusted. Therefore, he hated and wanted to eliminate them all. He also considered his spirit ally, Bason, a tool. (EDIT: Not much is known about what exactly happened in Ren’s childhood. He was made to train hard by his father, and thus is capable of doing things most of the shamans at his age wouldn’t be able to do (e.g. performing Hyoi 100%). Moreover, according to his sister, Jun, he had seen many people being killed when he was a child. Due to the Tao family’s tradition, Ren was given a tattoo on his back that symbolized their hatred towards humans. Since Tao family had been known for their shamanic skills, they soon were ostracized for their abilities and exiled. Therefore, they lost their belief in the kindness of humanity. That is why Ren believed that if he trusted people, they would betray him.) Ren came from China to Japan in order to fight Asakura Yoh, as well as to take part in Shaman Fight in Tokyo. He lost to Yoh but didn’t admit his defeat and decided to fight against him in Shaman Fight. During the qualification test, Ren killed a member of the Patch Tribe, Chrom. Soon, he faced Yoh once again. The match ended with a draw, allowing both Yoh and Ren to participle in the second part of the tournament. As Ren gained the friendship of Yoh and the others, he realized that everything he once believed in was not true. He returned to China to take revenge on his father, but ended instead ended up being chained up for his disobedience. Despite that, he didn’t change his mind. Thanks to Bason, Yoh and the others came for rescue. Together they were able to defeat Tao En, allowing Ren to finally move on with his life. Ren went with the others to America, where they were searching for the Patch Village. He assigned Yoh for the group’s leader, stating that he didn’t want to put himself before others and thus Yoh was the only candidate for leader. When they reached the Patch Village, Ren was the only one of the group who didn’t faint after seeing the Great Spirit. After the announcement of the rules for this part of the tournament, he chose the members for his team, HoroHoro and Chocolove, and named the team “THE REN”. During the first match against Tsuchigumi, Ren hardly did anything, since he and HoroHoro let Chocolove fight alone and simply watched the battle. He did, however, help Chocolove defeat Peyote at the end of the match. After seeing Yoh’s Chou Senji Ryakketsu during Funbari Onsen vs Iceman battle, Ren left the stadium, already knowing what the result would be. He met Hao, who asked him to join him, telling him that he could make Ren stronger than Yoh. Ren turned his proposition down and attacked Hao, who destroyed his kwan dao with ease and left, saying that they would eventually team up. Ren fought with Asakura Mikihisa and even though he lost, he learned all of Miki’s techniques by experiencing them first-hand. Soon after that, Ren, HoroHoro and Chocolove were attacked by Hao’s henchmen. Ren was killed by Peyote’s strongest Over Soul, Grande Phantasma. Iron Maiden Jeanne promised to revive him, provided that Yoh would withdraw from the Shaman Fight. He did so, and Ren was brought to life against his own will. After dying he was even stronger than before and developed a new Over Soul, Bushin Fish Fin. Ren also took part in the fight against Golem, but wasn’t able to stop it, so later on he just watched Chocolove’s battle. During the second round of the tournament, Team THE REN faced Team Myooh from the Gandara, who all had God-class spirits. After a long fight, Ren was close to defeating one member of their team, Yainage, but was beaten his teammate, Jackson. Soon after HoroHoro’s victory over Team Myooh, Team THE REN was killed by them in order to go through the training in Hell and become Five Warriors. That way, Ren and the others became even stronger and were ready to face Funbari Onsen Team. No sooner had the fight started, than Ryuu and Faust were already defeated. Then, Ren and HoroHoro fought Yoh, but were soon interrupted by Lyserg, who asked them to stop fighting, as the Gandara had withdrawn from the Shaman Fight, so both THE REN and Funbari Onsen were qualified to the finals. As soon as the remaining teams were taken on the Mu continent, THE REN, Funbari Onsen and X-I have withdrawn, allowing Hao to become the Shaman King. However, the Five Warriors haven’t gave up. They set off to defeat Hao as he was merging with the Great Spirit, knowing that they would have to beat the Priests of the Patch Tribe. In the second battle, Ren was killed once again, but was brought to life by Iron Maiden Jeanne. In the anime, most of those things never took place. Ren wasn’t killed even once (although it was pretty close at some point) and Hao didn’t become the Shaman King, but was defeated by Yoh. Personality: Because of the way he was raised, Ren is serious, logical, and emotionally aloof. Proud, arrogant and egoistic, he never admits defeat. He’s rather impatient and short-tempered, and is very likely to hurt the source of his anger (or at least threaten them). In addition, Ren is also very intuitive, quick-witted, and sometimes stubborn. He rarely listens to what anyone says or takes their instructions. Ren acts though, but deep down he would sacrifice himself to save his friends. He also has an obsession with milk (he states he drinks 3 bottles a day ^^) and the number 3.
